About the RD&TT Program
RD&TT research projects seek ways to increase efficiency and provide cost-effective solutions for the Hawaii Department of Transportation, which oversees 15 airports, 10 harbors and 2,450 miles of highway throughout the state. The Hawaii Department of Transportation identifies issues that require research, which is conducted through contracts with the University of Hawaii and other consultants or by the offices in the Hawaii Department of Transportation.
The Research Development and Technology Transfer program falls under the Materials Testing and Research Branch of the Hawaii Department of Transportation’s Highways Division. However, the program also serves the two other major groups within the Hawaii Department of Transportation: the Airports Division and the Harbors Division.
